The Faculty of Pain Medicine has recognised the significant role nursing officers play in connecting pain patients to medical officers. For this reason, the FPM conducts a pain management training programme for nursing officers.
We have trained 203 nursing officers up to date. The FPM in collaboration with ministry of Health has launched this program and the last training program was started on 19/02/2024.
This year 80 nursing officers were selected from island wide hospitals after an interview. They were trained as two parallel batches (40 in each batch) as 4th & 5th batch and all were succeeded in the exam to obtain the certificate.
This programme consists of lectures, clinical exposure in main pain centres (NHSL & National Cancer Institute), and 3 assessments with OSPE. They submitted a skill book which demonstrates the competency in 6 clinical tasks. In addition they submitted a log book with 4 case histories and a creative work. A percentage of the marks were added to the final result as well.
We aim to strengthen the pain service across the country to fulfil the basic human right of the patient 'TO BE PAIN FREE'.
